CAUSES

Causes for low thyroid can include, according to our non-professional opinion and according to our several professional sources:

  • Stress!
  • Low activity/exercise levels
  • Low movement of Prana/Chi
  • Fatigue
  • Environmental pollutants
  • Caffeine & chocolate
  • Prozac and other antidepressant (SSRI class of) medications

In Ayurvedic terms, extreme Vata aggravation (especially prolonged change and irregularities, weakened digestive strength, fatigue, stressors, sleep and other depletions are clearly involved).

Key minimize or avoids include also the following which are shown to weaken thyroid:

  • Chlorine. Chlorinated water for drinking, bathing, swimming

    Self-Assessments

Test through a medical lab if you are not sure.

(Heads up - I have used the oil blend, ENDOFLEX on my throat, for a heads up. I find that when it smells really great, or feels even better, this experience goes along with compromised thyroid function symptoms for myself and some of my postpartum clients. This is not enough information to make dose appropriate decisions.)
  • Possible emotional factors - In one seminar a woman, Patti, claimed that thyroid issues are about conscious/subconscious fighting within our self. She finds the SARA blend is great for this. Dr. Young uses Myrtle with Spikenard for similar purposes, more specific for speaking our truth effectively.
  • Basal Metabolic Temperature Self Test: Need thermometer only! The self-test for basal metabolic temperature is a good way to confirm, per one of my mentors, Rita Anderson & Dr. Carolyn DeMarco, MD:
Shake down the mercury in the thermometer below 95F/35C and lay it down at night next to your bed.

Measure immediately upon waking – lay there pref. Eyes closed - under the left armpit for 5-10 minutes.

Do this 3 – 5 mornings in a row at least.

Menstruating women take it days 2 – 3 – 4 of period, others anytime.

Take average axillary temp. Normal is 97.4 (98.6 less 1 – 2 degrees for under the armpit).

If on synthetic or other thyroid support:
Dr Gary Young reports that Bovine and synthetic Thyroid only mimics thyroid response but doesn’t help your thyroid. The Body degenerates your own in this case because it is not fed. Thyromin feeds it. Start the Thyromin right away. Most need to graduate off the other, some switch same day but we are in no position to advise any such thing without your doctor's cooperative supervision. Safe usage suggestions below. Gary explains that Thyromin is not medicine, it is a food supplement. The excess will be eliminated. Thyromin rejuvenates and balances the thyroid.

    Thyromin

This is "a special formula by Dr. Young of glandular extracts, herbs, amino acids, minerals and essential oils perfectly balanced to maximize nutritional support of the thyroid. This gland regulates body metabolism, energy, blood sugar levels and temperature.” It is one of Young Living’s VERY few products containing any animal glandular ingredient.

    Dosages

Variable doses are based upon basal temp test above

      1. With overactive thyroid, Dr. Young recommends to use in the AM only. AM use also jumpstarts the adrenals more.

      2. With under active thyroid, use 2 – 3 in eve, lunch option also

Giving room for error and normal variance, if your average basal temp is 97 - 4 tenths below normal, use one THYROMIN, and then increase 1 for each tenth lower than 97 as a good starter measure. Gary suggests that if your temp is a whole degree under normal to use 10 daily to start; 5 in AM, 5 in PM.

      3. Timing - Thyromin is usually best taken at night. A few people report it keeps them awake. Dr. Young’s advice is to have a good book handy, and ride it out for 4 – 5 days, after which the body will self regulate the day/night routine and HGH and Cortisol levels which are influenced. Ref training tape 26, Hormonal Response & Longevity part 1, and others, (available through Essential Science Publishing).

      4. May need to start with 4 – 6 Thyromin @ a time; will rebuild your gland and you will be able to reduce. (2 – 4 in afternoon or eve, 2 in Am). This is more than suggested on the bottle; find your comfort level. It looks very expensive with the higher doses at first, until you realize your maintenance dose will be very low, possibly none, and you are in any case nourishing and rebuilding your gland.

      5. Dr. Young suggests it may be wise to take one Thyromin from time to time (all of us exposed to chlorination) because chlorine blocks uptake of tyrosine amino acid in iodine which is essential to thyroid function. Chlorine is explained to be a major inhibitor of thyroid function. CAUTION then applies for Drinking, Bathing, minimize showering, swimming pools in chlorinated water.

      6. Vegetarian maintenance support is sometimes gained from use of the foods miso and the very high iodine content seaweeds.

    Other supplemental products

If you have knowledge and experience with organic source and vegetarian options that are effective thyroid support products, please contact us.

Use of ULTRA YOUNG and PROMIST can often reduce the THYROMIN need with other benefit. Ultra Young jump-starts the anterior pituatary, cleaning the receptor sites for and supporting better uptake and function of naturally produced HGH, and enhancing its function as well. HGH is a master hormone regulating immune, hormonal, metabolic and other functions of the glands, liver, heart, spleen and pancreas. Vegetarian oral delivery high absorption spray.

Gary Young (Young Living Oils) is finding to use THYROMIN often with GOLDENROD ESSENTIAL OIL, internally. (Young Life Research clinic report with protocol avail), especially when impotence and lowered libido is experienced along with low thyroid issues; these products also enhance each other.

His product PROMIST supports clearing of blocked pituitary receptor sites for HGH (immune function and many other functions). It is also an oral spray delivery for best absorption, includes pregnenelone (a much forgotten progesterone and other hormones precursor for female and male hormones. The body will use as needed and excrete any excess, no overdose concern as with progesterone), also has B vitamins and DHEA.

Include Cleansing and Body Building/nourishment as basic protocol as well usually. Among the best nutrional foods for thyroid are frequent use of miso (best after first 6 weeks postpartum period) and seaweeds. Many of the seaweeds have extremely high levels of iodine, which some companies are now labeling. Take a look whey you next go to the health food store - what you will see is an amazing range! Seaweeds can be purchased much more expensively from Chinese outlets; however quality of ocean waters are not reliable. These are supplements to enhance thyroid function and recovery, not cures.

    Pregnancy

Q – Regarding thyroid support during pregnancy?

A – Yes; monitor basal temperature. Postpartum as well.

Some will be concerned as it is not completely vegetarian.

    Results

I have heard Dr. Young speak of a client, a Woman with no Thyroid gland and no Parathyroid gland. She takes a maintenance support of 1 – 2 Thyromin/day only.

Dr. Young’s thyroid was destroyed with his logging accident. It took 3 years to rebuild it, and he still uses the Thyromin also, one every 2-3 days.

I also heard a Woman in Boulder last summer report she had transitioned totally off both synthetic thyroid and Thyromin in 9 months. She had previously been using medical thyroid supplement for 8 years! She said she had to use higher doses of Thryomin at first, also took SULFURZYME (MSM with Wolfberry/high antioxidant, immune enhancing, and other effects).

Dr. Young’s experience is that most people in her situation will need to arrive at a maintenance level of 1 – 2 per day.
