"DO I NEED TO TAKE ANY PREREQUISITES TO TAKE LEVEL 1 OR II TRAINING IN SEDONA?"
We want you to have this knowledge and skills for your community! So we have done our best to give flexible choices as well as honor the other students in a class for efficient learning.
LEVEL I Entrance
The upcoming Ayurvedic Doula Certification LEVEL I course in Sedona, does NOT require any pre-requisite courses. Once you've registered for the course, we will send you an orientation packet with some required pre-reading "assignments".
Becoming a Certified Postpartum AyurDoula (CPPAD) requires basic Postpartum Doula type education before graduation. It answers some basic postpartum care questions we will not address in the AyurDoula training program. Several ways are available and several national organizations do an excellent job with this material, as do midwifery and some nursing schools. La Leche Leaders, Childbirth Educators, etc and some breastfeeding mothers qualify from their background. Please check the Certification requirements link for details.
LEVEL II Entrance
LEVEL I, or other studies in Basic Ayurveda (at least 15 hours), Ayurvedic Cooking (15 hours) and Foundational theory in Ayurvedic Postpartum Care are required in some way.
For those who cannot attend the Level I program and want to attend Level II
1). We ask that you have a good introduction to Ayurvedic and AyurDoula theory. Basic Ayurveda (at least 15 hours), Ayurvedic Cooking (15 hours) and the Foundations of Ayurvedic Postpartum Care are required exposure, and required hours equivalancy for certification students.
2). See below and http://sacredwindow.com/Home+Learning for alternate study options.
"I cannot attend live classes but want to learn what I can."
"I am not concerned about certification, I have enough other professional credentials."
"Can I attend some classes or learn in another way?"
Mothers will keep having babies and they and their families keep needing - and deserving support for this personal, community and world changing event that happens with the birth of every baby. We hope you will find or be able to create a learning style that works for you here. Please contact us with any questions.
Some of the Ayurvedic Level I material is available by correspondence with Dr. Robert Svoboda and others. The AyurDoula Level I material is available from Ysha Oakes by email/download and correspondence study. The direct preceptor contact hours can sometimes be arranged by one on one internship with a practitioner, which along with written tests and documented practice proficiencies is another way to gain certification hours.
Bear in mind that what is learned by correspondence studies alone is just not the same depth of understanding or detail, and lacks the exposure with a professional in the field. For this reason NAMA (National AYurvedic Medical Association) will not recognize these studies by correspondence towards national certification recognition or listings.
See http://www.sacredwindow.com/node/84 for Arizona service project/learning possiblities.
"I would like to take Level II, already have lots of Ayurveda basics, am weak on Ayurvedic cooking skills." Please consider joining us on the advanced student track in Sedona.
If this doesn't work for you, submit your transcript of studies including completed tests for Ayurdoula Units I and IV which you missed, by correspondence and apply for an AyurDoula internship learning option. Go to http://sacredwindow.com/Home+Learning for more detail how to order the written materials.
Basic Ayurveda is offered via numerous Ayurvedic schools - follow the link options for events to find classes in your area by date. Also check under Associations, Authors and Practitioners.

Ayurvedic Herbology
A strong introduction to Ayurvedic Herbology (15 hours) is taught in the March Level II intensive, with a 4 hour basics segment in Level I on postpartum herbal nutrition.
The following good options bear posting because there are not many fairly direct entry (2-4 days intro to Ayurveda) programs offered in this country. The RMIYA option comes from the North Indian style of teaching Ayurveda, which goes into herbal studies earlier than the southern Indian style.
