Written for recent new student and c-birthed mama with questions how she can best accomplish her training requirements towards directly precepted/nationally recognized hours study. Her note and my response following:
Hi Ysha.
I am going to have to wait a bit on the ayurvedic postpartum warm oil treatment. We did not budget for it and that is beyond our means at this moment. I am also quite tender in my abdominal area, and will probably not feel comfortable on a table for a few weeks.
I still want to figure out a plan of how to go about my home study program with you and how it fits in with NAMA's requirements. I am getting ready to make some Ayurvedic postpartum recipes for myself that you suggest. I will let you know how they turn out.
Namaste, "Mama J"
Dear Mama J,
Our Young Living lavender or helichrysum is awesome for itches, stitches, pain and inflammation on your lower belly area neet, topically a few drops over C-incisions - and probably to late for this, on the epidural site for headache side effects. Dunno about other brands, some I"m sure will help. They are antiseptic and faciliate faster healing including oxygenating the tissues.
You should be taking the dashmool decoction or some cedrus deodar similarly, twice daily, and the dilute ccf or ff tea, among other supports. How are blood sugars managing now? are you doing your self and infant massage? take good care of yourself, drop whatever house or business responsibilities you can possibly set aside, the mess outside is much better than many layered messy inside longer term.
If not developing secondary infection or other complications, generally after c-birth, moms really appreciate the mother's abhyanga by day 7 or so, even to laying on tummy. some pressure on the uterus/abdomen if slow steady is good. Your feelings about it of course are bottom line. The abhyangas pillow and soothe nicely, and don't work the belly at first, just applying warm oil, till at least after 10 days or comfortable.
do you have one of those belly wraps? maternity stores sell one also with velcro, or use long 5 yard light weight cloth abut 8-12 inches wide. wear whenever possible, it is so helpful and variations of this used in many cultures. Would love to support you more if we can work something out, make me an offer, extend the time payments....
yes, sounds like you may do well to feature probably the recipes for first 2-3 weeks postpartum still, which are special for building your weak digestive fires, and extra soft/mush/easy to digest for while - Let me know how it is going, by your responses to the Wisewoman Daily Consulting unit "daily results" questions to zero in on your best supports, ok?
Phone, internet and live conversations or home spa treatments if we track the time and issues (your job mostly) in the learning counts towards your live preceptor contact hours, as will actual hands on care to an extent. Look at your essential oils, basic pp herbals, massage and PPConsulting requirements listed in the internship materials (incuded in the Ayurdoula study front materials) and you will see we are doing it as I speak.
So start checking off the practice sessions for proficiency for each unit - in your case it may be worthwhile making a copy and keeping it nearby. Also print out from the PPC first section, the daily results sheet and make notes on it daily for yourself, and keep in touch about your report so I can help you tweak your daily experience and understanding of how to use the knowledge! Again, we will track the time, counting it towards your requirements AND an estimated 85 hours of your experience and practice of listed reqs under that kind of supervision even from a distance, can be credited towards your hours. Does this make sense? You are in it now, let's do it! Some exchange can be worked out - maybe services, products at your spa as part of it for me.
If I can bring another student in to assist me or observe, we can also renegotiate costs down considerably. May have one or two almost ready for this, let me know your interest. This is more dovetailing than multitasking and I'm very interested in working this way.
Best to go about your program/training in conjunction with your own needs and we can gather live contact hours in process. Again, NAMA is not attending per se to AyurDoula requirements for certification,. only to recognized classes and their hour accumulations towards NAMA's higher level certifications at this point and that's our work to document. I'm attaching a document you may have, to look at how I offer options again.
So let's just do what we can do and as your needs come up, and when you are ready for some clients of your own there, we will add to your hours as long as you are also doing the study and in touch with me by phone or in person.
And count this as 40 minutes toward internship requirements consult and you should look at some of the requirements starting to be fulfilled. Also, your postpartum meals for yourself these days will qualify for some of the postpartum cooking block reqs.
Blissings! They are central to your self-restoring dynamics, as well as to being present with your little one.
Love,
Ysha
