PPD and related mood imbalances are considered a big mystery by many experts. At least they are realizing the need to address it. Ayurvedic medicine and the wise women traditions of many cultures around the world that do similar things find it not any big mystery at all.

Vaccinations thread - Hep B vaccine at 12 hours postpartum questioned
It is well addressed at many other sites. This article just came to my attention and hope you don't mind my posting it (given that it is one of those good guys bad guys kinda attitudes, I'm hesitant to take that approach as there is then no communication that heals. however, the stats are worth keeping abreast with, and then using compassion when possible to share it....Unfortunately, it seems the dollar does make unwise decisions creating undue suffering of how much? to newborns and babies.) - Ysha

DEVELOPMENTAL RISKS IN UTERO SHOWN IN SCHOOL CHILDREN - CELL PHONE USE!

Dr. Mercola catches it again. This study surprised some of the researchers with the significance of even 2-3 times daily use of cell phones during pregnancy. And in his comments he reminds us of the bigger picture of wireless lifestyle also. What to do?.....to be continued discussion for sure!

QUALITIES OF MILK
Are there some benefits even to cheap/factory farmed milk? Some will have a problem with this, but it is the honest and practical look. Some layers of creation can be supportive (blessedly!) even if others in the same situation or same food are not healthy. As an AyurDoula when coming into a mother's home to cook, we have to work sometimes with what is there or budget will permit. So the below is also part of the big picture prelude to the healthier considerations around organic, raw/cooked etc.
Babies and moms, teens too - Sleep more, weigh less and other related research
Good news! Rest is healthy! Some would think it is more important to get exercise right away to loose residual pregnancy weight, but every school of exercise I've seen reported wait at least 3 months for a full on exercise routine again. It isn't just about exercise, of course. Ample rest gives the body chance to restore, to use its innate intelligence, and also to reduce the stress levels (cortisol, the stress hormone adds weight to many with chronic aggravation).

Excitotoxins - MSG hidden in so many things
A "non Ayurvedic" reason to avoid many common foods that you won't find on your postpartum foods list anyway 8)
"It seems that anymore, its like walking through a minefield, when it comes to
trying to avoid poisons in our food. Then having to answer our critics who
complain of our fanaticism." This and below from Jeff Kaplan, RN
Take care - Ysha
The most common foods msg is found in are commercial canned soups, and salad
dressings, boullion, chips and snack foods of all kinds, and ALL fast food
restaurant food, including places like Applebees, and Chilis.
Recent research on effects of SSRIs on newborns not good
3 years ago, searching the web for research reports on this topic found not very much, most research said not a problem. There is more data now, best to take more care around it. More motivation to try Ayurveda instead (much more effective!)
